It is strongly recommended that Candidates complete an appropriate formal course of study offered by a recognized Technical Institute before undertaking to write any of the "Standardized Power Engineers’ Certificate of Competency Examinations". Candidates should refer to the appropriate SOPEEC syllabus for the level of examination that they are preparing to attempt. As well, they may be able to receive assistance from their local technical institute before commencing their studies.
